Real vs Faux Wedding Flowers: Which Is Better?
We are often asked what is better: real or faux wedding florals. It used to be quite clear, the look that you could get from real flowers was unmatched in the faux world, but in recent years the difference is becoming smaller and smaller.
COST
One of the largest differences is the cost. With real flowers, there is a huge upfront cost in purchasing them in the first place. Not to mention the floral designers payments and expenses involved with keeping them watered and fresh for your wedding. The expense of real flowers really adds up when you factor in their care and their fragility.
With faux florals, they are a lot less expensive. This often allows you to be able to purchase more or a wider range of florals and colors. This can lead to the less expensive option being more expansive, forgiving, vibrant, and matching your wedding theme even better than real flowers.
STRESS
A factor that isn’t often considered with real flowers is the stress. With more and more venders, helpers, coordinators, and organizers needing to be involved in the wedding, the stress can soon mount up. With real flowers, they need to be ordered in advance and delivered very close to the wedding. This can be affected badly by weather and other circumstances out of your control. Real flowers can’t be held for long, and so this can lead to huge risk. All of this piles on top of other potential stressors on your big day, and so real flowers might not be for you.
Faux flowers, however, can be ordered months or even years in advance. From what our customers have said, this has taken a huge amount of stress off them, as it allows them to know that their flowers are there and ready to go for there special day no matter what. Also due to the fact that faux florals are a lot more forgiving, they can be stored and transported with a lot less worry.
LONGEVITY
Lastly is the longevity of the flowers themselves. With real flowers, there is quite a small window where they are perfect. In the wrong conditions, flowers can start to look withered within hours. This can be really difficult as some flowers need to be stored in cool, dark places right up to the ceremony. They are also incredibly seasonal, so you can only have specific flowers at there best in specific seasons.
With faux florals, they can be stored for months or even years and still be beautifully vibrant on your big day. We have customers that say their florals still look perfect years after their wedding, still on display in their homes. Faux florals can also come in any color or style that you want, and you don’t have to factor in the season. Want a daisy and lavender bouquet in the winter? Or snow accented pinecone pieces for your wedding in the spring? This is possible thanks to artificial florals. They also make an amazing gift for any of the bridal party as an memory piece of the day that is made to last for years to come. This means that bouquets of any kind can become home decor for the newlyweds or for any of the bridal party, rather than real florals having to be dried or discarded after the wedding.
