How Long Do Sola and Artificial Flowers Last?
It’s easy to say that faux flowers last longer than real ones, but one thing we are often asked is just how long our flowers will stay beautiful. With proper storage and care, our bouquets and home decor will be beautiful and vibrant for decades. In this blog, we’ll talk about different factors that impact the longevity of faux florals, and how to preserve them for years to come.
Flower Quality
A major factor in longevity is the quality of the faux florals. We use high quality artificial flowers and greenery, so this is one of the factors that you don’t have to worry about. And thanks to the quality of the dyes and softeners we use, both the sola and the silk flowers hold their color incredibly well. However, there are some considerations that will keep your florals vibrantly colored and beautiful.
The Sun
The sun is known for bleaching everything left it its powerful rays. Silk florals, faux greenery, and yes even natural wooden sola flowers need to be protected from long term sun exposure. One day in an outdoor wedding won’t hurt your bouquets at all! However, displaying your florals in a window or other sun-exposed spot for months at a time will fade the color over time. Picking an area with little or filtered sun light will keep your florals vibrant.
Humidity
Though average humid days won’t hurt your florals, high humidity environments like bathrooms can lead to your florals flattening and wilting. For the best long term results, make sure to keep them out of overly humid or wet areas. If your florals need cleaning, take care to not use water or liquid cleaners, as this can reshape sola wood flowers and cause color loss. The best way to clear off dust is occasional dry dusting, or even a quick, gentle blow dry session with cool / low heat!
Gravity
If the flowers are laid on there sides for long stretches of time, it can lead to a little flattening. This isn’t permeant, and can be adjusted with gentle reshaping either by hand or with a blow dryer on low. The best way to avoid flattening is to store bouquets upright in jars or vases with wide openings and bases. Looking to store your seasonal centerpieces until next year? Storing them flat and avoiding stacking anything heavy on top will avoid gravity causing any flat spots on them.
Dust
Storing your bouquets for a while before your wedding day, or changing out your centerpieces for a new season of decor? Try to storing your florals in a dust free area. This can be in a cupboard or on a shelf with a piece of tissue paper draped over the top prevent dust build up. If dust does collect on your pieces, no worries! A gentle shake will remove most, and a gentle dry brushing will likely clear the rest. If some still remains, using a hair drier on a cool, gentle setting will do the trick to return your pieces to their original beauty.
